Purpose
The College recognizes the value of non-motorized and small motorized vehicles as forms of transportation. Although the College encourages the use of these vehicles for commuting to and from campus, certain limitations and prohibitions of vehicles are noted in this policy in order to limit risk and promote the safety of the campus community.

This policy applies to all members of the College community.
Policy
Skateboards (longboards, razors, skates, etc.)
Based on concerns for the safety of boarders, pedestrians, and campus property, as well as the documented risk and liability issues, the use of skateboards, longboards, roller-blades, skates, razor scooters, hoverboards and other similar devices are prohibited anywhere on Columbia College campuses. Hoverboard storage and/or use of hoverboards or similar items is strictly prohibited on campus due to the potential risk they pose as a fire hazard.
Bicycles and other non-motorized vehicles
Bicycles, unicycles, and other non-motorized vehicles are allowed on campus, but shall not be ridden on campus sidewalks or grassy areas. Bicycles may be walked onto campus and secured to appropriate bike racks on campus but not to any non-designated structures (including light posts, signs, benches, etc.).
Small motorized vehicles
The use of small motorized vehicles that are intended for roadway use including, but not limited to, motorized mopeds, motorized scooters and motorized bicycles are allowed on campus, but shall not be ridden on campus sidewalks or grassy areas. These vehicles shall be registered with the Campus Safety Office and are subject to Parking Requirements at Columbia College.
Small motorized vehicles that are not intended for roadway uses including, but not limited to, golf carts and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are prohibited on campus, except for the use of authorized campus personnel.
Safety
Users are responsible for being in control at all times of their vehicles so as not to endanger the safety of themselves or others. In all situations, pedestrians have the right of way and users of vehicles must yield to pedestrians. Users are encouraged to use safety helmets and other protective equipment and clothing. Users of vehicles, both motorized and non-motorized, shall comply with all applicable state laws and regulations concerning proper riding and required equipment.
The College is committed to equal access to all of its facilities and exceptions to this policy shall be made for any item or device that is a reasonable accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The College reserves the right to prohibit additional specified types of vehicles on College property or from particular areas on campus, on either a permanent or temporary basis.
