High School Art Competition

Each participating high school may submit a maximum of 20 pieces, to be decided before bringing the pieces to Columbia College. Each individual student may submit up to three pieces.

The categories are:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Mixed media/Printmaking
  • Photography/Digital media/Film/Animation
  • Sculpture/Ceramics/Jewelry/Fibers or other 3-dimensional media

Awards

  • Best of Show: (awarded to one overall winner)
    • $100 cash
    • $1,000 Columbia College Art Grant [1]
    • free registration to the next Summer Art Intensive
  • First place in each category:
    • $50 cash
    • 50% off registration fee for next Summer Arts Intensive
  • Second place in each category:
    • $30 cash
    • 35% off registration fee for next Summer Arts Intensive
  • Third place in each category:
    • $20 cash
    • 20% off registration fee for next Summer Arts Intensive

1 The Art Grant can be renewed each year the student is enrolled full-time at Columbia College as an art major. The student is required to be an exemplary student, producing high-quality artwork and making satisfactory progress in all classes. If the student does not demonstrate continued excellence in their studies, the Art Grant can be reconsidered at any time. Any student entering the exhibition is encouraged to submit a portfolio to the Columbia College Department of Visual Arts & Music for grant consideration.

Important Dates

Two weeks before the start of the exhibition: Deadline to return each participating student’s completed “artist information card” to the Columbia College Department of Visual Arts & Music:

One week before the start of the exhibition: Artwork delivered to the Art Office in Brown Hall 212 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. To arrange drop-off at an alternate time, please email ArtDepartment@CCIS.edu.

Last day of two-week exhibition: Closing reception is from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Sidney Larson Gallery. Awards presentation will begin at 11:30 a.m.. No artwork may be taken until 12 p.m. If alternative arrangement must be made for pick up, please email ArtDepartment@CCIS.edu.
