Why study UI/UX Design?

Starting Fall 2026

The six-month UI/UX Design certificate program at Columbia College is created with an industry-relevant curriculum and an emphasis on accessibility. Students will be equipped with the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the rapidly growing field of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design while also working toward creating a more accessible and inclusive digital future for everyone.

This certificate is available to students seeking a degree or those who want to earn a standalone certificate.

What You'll Learn 

  • Wireframing
  • Prototyping
  • Usability testing
  • HTML/CSS basics
  • Design tools (Figma, Adobe XD)
  • Soft skills, including collaboration and problem-solving

Hands-on experience includes completing design projects for real-world clients, usability testing labs and portfolio development.

Program Details

  • Students must complete at least nine semester hours of the certificate through Columbia College.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher.
  • The certificate totals 16-18 credit hours. If a student selects UIUX 499 – UI/UX Internship as their elective, they may choose one to three credit hours, which determines their total program hours.

This certificate is offered 100% online in an accelerated format, which means it can be completed in as few as six months, depending on course rotation and when you begin the program.

  • UI/UX required courses and ARTS 317 are offered in a 4-week format
  • The UI/UX internship follows the early/late 8-week internship schedule, consistent with other internships
  • MKTG 210 and PSYC 101 are offered in the 8-week format
