Each week will have 2 Discussion topic/questions to answer. Discussion topics will become available at 12:01 am CT Monday and all work must be completed by Sunday. You must post an original response to Discussion prompts by 11:59 pm CT Thursday, except in Week 8 where they are due Wednesday. You must then also respond substantively to at least two classmates’ initial posts within each Discussion topic by 11:59 pm CT Sunday, except in Week 8, where they are due Saturday.
Discussion posts (initial) should be complete, clear, and a minimum of 100 words. Replies to other students should address the posted subject and be at least 1 paragraph in length (50 words). A grading rubric will be provided to students. Discussions (with the exception of Introductions) are worth 20 points each.
There will be weekly quizzes in Weeks 1-7. Quizzes will be available beginning 12:01 am CT Monday and will be due at 11:59 pm CT Sunday of the same week. Quizzes will cover assigned readings and be comprised of 20 multiple-choice questions. Students will have one timed attempt of no more than 30 minutes at each quiz. Each Quiz is worth 10 points.
The final Research Paper will be due at 11:59 pm CT Wednesday of Week 8. The paper must be 6 pages long and include a title page, abstract, and a reference page. It should be formatted in APA style, double-spaced, with 12-point Times New Roman font used throughout. Papers that vary in format will lose points. A rubric will be provided in the Content area. The following assignments due throughout the course will help you write your Research Paper and are opportunities for student/student and student/instructor feedback.
Research Question (Week 2):
You will propose a research question to be the subject of their research paper for the course.
Using the table of contents in your textbook, think about questions you have about the history of psychology to choose a question. You will be required to cite/include one peer-reviewed journal article or book that explores the question. Once you’ve chosen a question, you will create a 3-page paper that includes a title page, a page of essay text with at least one citation, and a reference page with one reference. The paper must be formatted in APA style, 12 point Times New Roman. This short paper with your Research question will be due to the appropriate dropbox by 11:59 pm CT Sunday of Week 2.
Article Review/Brief APA Papers (Weeks 3 and 4)
You will submit brief APA papers in Weeks 3 and 4. The papers should be brief (3-pages), in APA style. They should include a title page, brief essay with at least one in-text citation, and a reference page with one reference. The body of each paper should summarize the relevant content of the article to the topic they’ve chosen for the Research Paper.
Sample papers will be provided in the Content area.
Article Review 1 will require you to identify one historical text or journal article to be used in the Research Paper.
Article Review 2 will require you to identify a peer-reviewed journal article to be used in the Research paper.
Article Review/APA papers should be submitted to the appropriate dropbox by 11:59 pm CT Sunday of their respective weeks.
Research Paper Abstract (Week 5)
You will submit an abstract for your Research paper in Week 5. The abstract should be a concise summary (150-250 words) of the key points of research. It should contain the research topic, questions, analysis and conclusion(s). The abstract should written and formatted in APA style. A sample abstract will be provided in the Content area. The Abstract should be submitted to the appropriate dropbox by 11:59 pm CT Sunday of Week 5.
Annotated Bibliography (Week 6)
You will complete an annotated bibliography in Week 6. The annotated bibliography should contain at least three references from history texts or peer-reviewed journal articles. A sample annotated bibliography will be provided in the Content area. The Annotated Bibliography should be submitted to the appropriate dropbox by 11:59 pm CT Sunday of Week 6.
Peer Review/Writer’s Workshop (Week 7)
You will submit your draft Research Paper for Peer Review in Week 7. You must provide substantive feedback to at least two classmate’s papers, identifying at least one positive quality in each of the papers and one area that needs improvement. You will be given prompts to guide reviews. Papers must be submitted for review by 11:59 p m CT Thursday. All reviews must be completed by 11:59 pm CT Sunday of Week 7.
The Final Exam will be proctored. Proctor information will be due at 11:59 pm CT Sunday of Week 2. The Final Exam will be cumulative, covering material from all chapters of the assigned reading in the course. The Final Exam will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions and is worth 200 points. You will have 120 minutes to complete the Final Exam. It will open at 12:01 am CT Tuesday of Week 8 and must be completed by 11:59 pm CT Saturday.
