The professional nursing graded discussion topics will be opened on Monday and locked at 11:59 PM CT (Central Time) the following Sunday, except for Week 8. In Week 8, the discussion topic will be locked at 11:59 PM CT on Saturday. Inappropriate language or attacking a classmate’s opinion will not be tolerated. This behavior will result in zero points on the discussion and may lead to disciplinary action under the Student Conduct policies.
Professional Nursing Paper Assignments
Baccalaureate nursing practice differs from associate nursing practice in the expectation that the nurse will demonstrate the ability to analyze and communicate information to continually expand the profession. To enhance your development in this area, there are three professional literature review papers in this course worth 50 points each. The topics pertain to areas of current interest in professional nursing and address the course objectives in this syllabus. You will research and compose three papers (4-5 pages, plus a title page, abstract and references). You should reference primary source evidence-based research nursing articles and information from supporting resources such as the Institute of Medicine (IOM), American Nurses Association (ANA), American Hospital Association (AHA), and National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI). Compare conflicting opinions on the topic, present your position on the topic, and provide support for it. You may use limited personal examples to explain your point. You may use examples from your health care organization, but do not reference the organization’s name, a patient’s name or a peer’s name. The paper must be well-written, concise, and follow APA style. A minimal acceptable level of writing must be displayed. See the rubric in the Content area for more specific details on the expectations. Turnitin will be utilized in this course. The instructor and student will be able to access this information to learn proper APA formatting and citations and to further improve their documents submitted.
Assignment 1: Formatting a Professional Paper and Annotated Bibliography This assignment requires you to view the Columbia College APA tutorial following the link on the home page of this course. After viewing the tutorial, the first part of this assignment requires the student to format a professional paper related to title page, margins, headings, page numbers, sections and reference page. The references you examine will explore the complex issue of entry into practice, education level of nursing, staffing, supply and demand, and safe patient outcomes. The Week 1 discussion on standards of practice will assist you in understanding the responsibilities and accountability of the baccalaureate role. Assignment 1 includes your APA formatted paper with a reference list including your annotated bibliography. These articles will be referenced in later assignments. Due 11:59 PM Sunday of Week 2.

The expectation is that you will explore this complex issue of providing quality care in an environment of scarce resources and high customer satisfaction expectations. You may individualize this paper by discussing the issue from a specialty area, national perspective, advocacy role, or political action perspective. The information you gain from your readings will provide context to this issue. Outside resources listed will be helpful in addressing this topic. You will be able to articulate this subject and reference this assignment in later assignments. Due 11:59 PM
Sunday of Week 5.
Assignment 3: Nursing Workforce Issues The topic for this paper is nursing workforce issues.
