The Emerging Leaders Institute strives to connect students to the institution as well as prepare them to be engaged citizens within their community.
Participating students commit to three consecutive semesters of the leadership program. At the conclusion of each semester, members receive a scholarship.
Membership is renewed based on attendance, performance and commitment to program ideologies.
Members of the Emerging Leaders Institute:
- Develop a personal philosophy of leadership
- Apply contemporary leadership theories and practices into everyday life
- Engage in active discussion regarding leadership, civic responsibility and community service
- Network with professionals in their field of study
- Explore, participate and reflect on the concept of leadership for social change
- Participate in a positive, inclusive learning experiences
ELI applicants must be currently enrolled at the traditional campus and in good judicial standing. Selection is based on cumulative GPA, application content and an interview. Throughout the selection process, the committee assesses the overall fit of each student to the program.
Returning students must maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GAP with continued involvement in the program and its activities. The selection committee will also monitor all returning students' activities and ensure that contributions are consistent.
Semester 1: Spring
This one credit hour, in-seat course meets weekly. A small scholarship is awarded upon completion of the semester.
Semester 2: Fall
An in-seat course meets for 1.5 hours weekly and focuses on Vision Project Presentations. A small scholarship is awarded upon completion of the semester.
Semester 3: Spring
During the final semester, members are paired with public figures in the community who serve as mentors. A small scholarship is awarded upon completion of the semester.
