Tutoring and writing assistance
Working with a tutor can help you develop your problem-solving skills, improve your writing, and better understand texts, concepts, and assignments. Tutors can also support you in developing good study habits as you prepare for quizzes and exams.
All students taking classes at any Columbia College location or online have access to tutors and writing consultants through the Columbia College Academic Achievement Center (AAC), which encompasses the Ether L. Bruce Math Center and the Elizabeth Toomey Seabrook Writing Center and Tutoring Services. AAC tutors can help with content and study skills in a variety of subjects, including math, chemistry, accounting, computer science, biology, physics, finance, and ASL. AAC writing consultants can help with writing in any subject and at any stage of the writing process, including brainstorming, developing a thesis, organizing thoughts, adding depth to analysis, editing and revising, and meeting MLA, APA, or Chicago style guidelines. All services are free and available remotely over zoom or in person on the Columbia campus when classes are in session.
Students have additional access to other tutors and writing consultants through a free online tutoring system, Smarthinking. Connect with a live educator 24 hours a day, seven days a week from any computer with internet access. No special software or equipment is necessary.
Additional tutoring services may be available at a Columbia College location near you.
