Position title:

Development associate.

What do you do in that position?

I am responsible for supporting Heart of Missouri United Way’s (HMUW) resource development director by managing components of resource development solicitation, including research, database management, sponsorship solicitation and event management. I also assist the community engagement and volunteer coordinator in planning and implementing corporate and community volunteer projects and outreach events. While overseeing resource development administrative duties, I work closely with HMUW’s finance department to ensure accurate pledge and gift processing. I also am responsible for researching and maintaining awareness of current and emerging fundraising techniques and prospects in areas of group, corporate and individual solicitation.

How is that experience?

I have greatly enjoyed my time with the Heart of Missouri United Way so far. It is a great place to work!

What have you learned?

Each day I am challenged to grow and develop, not only as a leader but as a person. There is so much to learn from the staff and volunteers. Each day is a new day to learn!

What Grossnickle Career Services Center resources did you utilize?

I used the Grossnickle Career Services Center while pursuing my undergraduate degree to assist me in creating my resume and cover letter, beginning my job search, and overall, the initial preparation for my future career. I also took advantage of CCNet, career fairs, workshops and speed networking, among other resources—anything I could to assist me in my job search.

What would you tell other students about your experience with the Grossnickle Career Services Center?

I absolutely would encourage students to check out all the opportunities and programs the Grossnickle Career Services Center offers. I did my very best to take full advantage of these resources, and they greatly assisted me in my job search. I walked into interviews feeling more prepared, ahead of the game even.
