Research the Position and Interviewer

  • Thoroughly review the position description prior to the interview.
  • If you did not receive the full job description, call the company and ask for a copy.
  • Highlight the key skills and job responsibilities required for the position. Use this information to prepare examples from your experience that demonstrate these skills.
  • If anyone in your network has held a similar job or career, contact them for some “inside” information on the job and what skills and characteristics are most essential for success. This will help you understand what the interviewer may be looking for in job candidates.
  • Make sure you obtain the correct spelling and pronunciation of your interviewer's name so you can greet him/her correctly.
  • If you will be interviewing with multiple individuals, ask for a copy of the interview agenda so you have the names and titles of all who you will be meeting during the interview process.
