Dr. Moenes Mellouli came to the US on a swimming scholarship from Tunisia (North Africa). He competed in the NCAA division II with Drury University while pursuing a dual bachelor’s degree in mathematics and business administration with a dual minor in actuarial science and general studies.
As an undergraduate student, Dr. Mellouli spent a considerable amount of time tutoring in Mathematics. His passion for teaching stemmed from there and the encouragement of his mother who taught at and then became the principal of the primary school Dr. Mellouli attended when young.
Dr. Moenes taught as a graduate student at the University of Missouri-Columbia while pursuing a dual master’s degree in mathematics and economics. Immediately after graduation, he worked as an Associate Actuary at the headquarters of Assurant Employee Benefits in Kansas City, MO.
Dr. Mellouli enjoyed working as an Actuary for several years but loved teaching more, so he ventured overseas where he:
Taught actuarial science and mathematics courses and helped in marketing, recruiting students and
Further developed the bachelor’s degree in actuarial science in Saudi Arabia and Qatar
Served in several leadership roles such as: MBA & Ph.D. programs coordinator at BTEC Universities in UAE, Cooperative program coordinator at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia and Course Coordinator at Qatar University, to name a few.
Dr. Mellouli enjoys learning and exploring new fields. He earned his MBA from Northampton University (UK) and his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia where he taught undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. level courses. He joined Columbia College in the Fall of 2023 as an Assistant Professor teaching mathematics and statistics courses along with developing new courses from the field of actuarial science that will further enrich our statistics bachelor’s degree.
As an educator, Dr. Mellouli’s teaching style heavily relies on involving his students in some decision making in his classes, and whenever he addresses them, he says: "please share with me any of your ideas. If it is fair towards your classmates and benefits everyone equally (without spoiling the class), then I'll implement it." Career wise, Dr. Mellouli thrives to become a distinguished professor one day and to serve in several leadership positions at Columbia College.
