Dr. Jon Oxford is a biopsychologist whose academic trajectory began with foundational studies in biology, chemistry, anthropology, and animal behavior. Building on this interdisciplinary background, he pursued a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of Missouri, where he investigated hormonal responses to competitive interactions using video game paradigms. Following the completion of his doctorate, Dr. Oxford was awarded funding by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to conduct a two-year research project at the Human Motivation and Affective Neuroscience Laboratory in Erlangen, Germany. This project explored motivational and hormonal responses to virtual competition among both men and women, focusing on individuals and teams. Upon returning from Germany, he resumed his primary professional passion: teaching. Drawing on his broad academic foundation and biological orientation, Dr. Oxford encourages students to appreciate the integrative nature of knowledge across disciplines. By highlighting the ways in which these fields inform and complement one another, he fosters a holistic learning environment in which students come to view both their academic pursuits and the broader world as interconnected and dynamic.
