James McGuffee joined the faculty at Columbia College in 2024, where he is responsible for teaching and developing Computer Science courses in support of the online B.S. in Computer Science program, offered through the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Dr. McGuffee earned his B.S. in Computer Science from Louisiana Tech University in 1989 and his Ph.D. in Computer Science, with a minor in Speech Communication, in 1994. Before joining Columbia College, he served as a faculty member and administrator at several institutions, including Austin Community College, St. Edward’s University, Northern Kentucky University, and Christian Brothers University.
A senior member of the ACM, Dr. McGuffee has authored over 15 publications, primarily in the area of computer science education. He enjoys mentoring undergraduate students on their research and applied computing projects. James, his wife, and their two sons live in Bartlett, Tennessee.
