Dr. Danilo León

Ph.D. in Spanish Literature, Language & Culture, University of Missouri; Master of Arts in Language, University of Missouri 

Dr. Danilo León holds a Ph.D. in Spanish Literature, Language & Culture and a Master of Arts in Language Teaching from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He also possesses training in Leadership (University of Denver), Translation (University of Toronto), Higher Education Teaching (Harvard University) and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Cornell University).

He is a passionate award-winning educator with ample in-person and online teaching experience. His teaching portfolio includes: Beginner, intermediate and advanced Spanish language courses. He has also taught courses on Latin American, Spanish and Chicanx literature, cultural studies, women’s & gender studies, Spanish writing & composition, Spanish for professional purposes, Spanish for heritage speakers, and Latin American & Spanish contemporary film.

Dr. León's research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals such as: Polifonía, The Rocky Mountain Review and ALCESXXI: Journal of Contemporary Spanish Literature and Film. He has presented his research in more than 25 regional, national and international academic conferences. He is also the recipient of two National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowships for two Summer Institutes (2017 and 2023). 

At Columbia College, Dr. León is currently serving as Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for the new Spanish Language and Cultures online B.A. Program. He believes strongly in the value of education in the humanities and in helping others pursue the study and enjoyment of languages and cultures.
