Dr. Joyce Gentry
Dr. Joyce Gentry received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University), and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri Sinclair School of Nursing. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Missouri College of Education in educational school and counseling psychology.
As a Registered Professional Nurse, Dr. Gentry has experience in medical surgical specialties such as general surgery, trauma and oncology. She has worked in acute care settings, intensive care units and in medical research.
She has more than 25 years of teaching experience, and has been nurse faculty at Columbia College for 10 years.
Dr. Gentry is lead faculty for the courses NURS 214: Medical Surgical Nursing I and NURS 215: Medical Surgical Nursing II. As the lead faculty, she manages and supervises students in the simulation lab with the implementation of SimMan 3G scenarios. She organizes and schedules the medical surgical nursing students’ clinical experiences at local and regional hospitals. Dr. Gentry also mentors the faculty who supervise the medical surgical nursing students while in the clinical setting. The implementation of CCNN (Columbia College Nursing Network) allows her to provide the topic lectures to the Columbia campus and the Lake of the Ozarks campus nursing students simultaneously.
