Dr. Gifford received her B.A. in Biology (1998) and B.S. in Nursing (1999) from the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She earned a Master’s of Rural Family Nursing-Nurse Educator degree from the University of Central Missouri in 2013. In 2019, she completed her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Leadership & Health Innovations at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Gifford began her nursing career in the Surgical Specialties unit of Boone Hospital Center. After gaining valuable nursing experience there, she transferred to her true passion working in Labor & Delivery, PostPartum, and the Newborn Nursery. She then was a travel nurse in Labor & Delivery and PostPartum in four different states.

Dr. Gifford began working as a nursing instructor in 2009. She has taught didactic and clinical in LPN, RN-LPN, BSN, Accelerated BSN, and RN-BSN (online) courses. In addition to Maternal-Child content, she has taught Leadership & Management, Nursing Research, and Health Assessment as well as clinical instructing in Maternal-Child and Medical/Surgical courses. Joining the Columbia College faculty in 2022, Dr. Gifford teaches Health Assessment, Foundations of Professional Nursing, and NCLEX-RN Review. She also serves as the RN-BSN Program Coordinator.

Dr. Gifford resides in Columbia. She is active at her church including singing on the Worship Team and as the substitute pianist. In her spare time she enjoys flower and vegetable gardening, quilting, and knitting.
