Dr. Monroe began her nursing career 15 years ago in the Medical/Neurological Intensive Care Unit at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics. She later moved to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and worked as an agency nurse at Boone Hospital, Rusk Rehab and St. Mary’s in the PACU, step down unit and various intensive care units. Dr. Monroe holds CCRN, ACLS and PALS certifications.

Dr. Monroe has taught in traditional and accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs, as well as in RN-BSN programs, since 2011. Her past course responsibilities included clinical teaching in Med/Surg I, Mental Health at the VA and Community Health. She also has taught in online courses, including Legal Nursing, Assessment and Pathophysiology, Pharmacology and Theory and Research. She has been a faculty member at Columbia College since 2017.

Dr. Monroe received a Master of Science in Public Health Nursing and a Doctorate of Nurse Practice in Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist in Advanced Practice Nursing with a minor in Nursing Education from the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

She presented at the 23rd Annual Midwest Regional Nursing Educators Conference on "Strategies for Those Difficult Conversations: Panel Discussion." She has also presented on Health Literacy at the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Dr. Monroe's doctoral research was "Nursing Adherence to Low-intensity Heparin Drip in Surgical, Neurological Intensive Care Units, Neuroscience floor and Progressive Care Unit."” In partnership with the Centers for Disease Control, Dr. Monroe published a childhood asthma brief, which is used as a resource for public health nurses. Dr. Monroe also has served on medical missions to Honduras.

Dr. Monroe resides in Centralia with her husband Josh, a combat veteran, and daughters Arowyn, Avalynn and Amira, who are her pride and joy. She also enjoys singing with her church’s worship team, acting, attending medical mission trips, reading, and watching movies. Her family’s favorite things to do together are to travel in their camper, be outdoors and go boating.
