Columbia College, MACC enhance teacher education program

(Moberly, MO)-Columbia College and Moberly Area Community College (MACC) are enhancing teacher education programs in Mid-Missouri. The two schools will sign an articulation agreement that formalizes the arrangement at 11:30 a.m. June 17 in Moberly.

Columbia College and MACC have enjoyed a close educational partnership since 1996. Through their 2-Plus-2 program, students finishing an Associate of Arts with MACC transfer directly to Columbia College for their last two years of a baccalaureate degree.

The new articulation agreement will prepare MACC education students to enter the Columbia College teacher certification program. MACC will offer four new classes in education and will hire additional faculty. MACC education students intending to transfer to Columbia College will be identified in their first year in order for Columbia College to advise them on how to prepare for their bachelor's program with Columbia College.

"This articulation agreement allows for a seamless transfer of education students from MACC to either the Day or Evening programs at Columbia College," said Dr. Terry Smith, vice president and dean for Academic Affairs at Columbia College. "It is an outward demonstration of a commitment to teacher education in Missouri."

In recent years, more than 30 Columbia College students each year graduate and receive their teacher certification.

Columbia College was founded in Missouri in 1851. Today, the college serves 20,000 students at its Day Campus, Evening Campus, Graduate Program, 30 nationwide campuses and Online Campus.
