Why did you choose Columbia College?
Bottom line up front the staff sold me the moment I walked into the Academics Office. They always remembered my name and helped guide me the last couple of years.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan on progressing in a Graduate Program. I have achieved a full admission status at Capella University for the MS in Mental Health Counseling program with a Specialization in General Mental Health Counseling, beginning September 9, 2013.
What was your favorite course, and why?
There are actually two courses that stand out; my last course, Social Psychology and Minorities in Literature. Social Psychology allowed me to express my opinion while exploring current literature outside of our text books. Minorities in Literature gave me a never before perspective on our lack of understanding of minority authors within the United States and the influences they had on our views of minorities. Our first formal minority education often times is not until college and by this time we have already formed our own opinions. What a wonderful course that changes one's opinion by reading works of literature through the eyes and writings of minority authors.
Is there anyone you would like to thank?
I would like to thank my Wife Mari Themann, who is in her Senior year at Columbia College. As a team we "tagged teamed" the kids, dinner, the chores and homework. We fed off each other's enthusiasm to want a better life and to set a positive example for our children. I would like to thank my parents; as the son of an Archeologist and a Stock Broker I realized the importance of education not only to succeed in life but to become an “expert in your field”. Finally I would like to thank my brother, Seth Themann who taught me there are no obstacle too great; success is in my hands alone.
