NEW CougarMail is available!
You asked for it and Technology Services is delivering.
Welcome to the all-new CougarMail email system. You will now be accessing your email through
a custom interface built on the world class Google Mail (Gmail) infrastructure. Below are answers to questions you may have about accessing
the new system.
Why is the CougarMail system changing?
We experienced major problems with the old email system, including delays in
mail delivery and instability. While the old system worked well in the
beginning, as Columbia College has grown, the original CougarMail system failed
to grow with it. As a result, it was unsuccessful in meeting the needs of the
students. In order to upgrade the old system, it would cost more than
$100,000.00.
We chose a new mail system based on cost, scalability and available features.
The new system is available at no cost to the college and will continue to grow
as we do. In addition, it has all of the same features the old system had and
much more.
Will my email address change?
No, your email address will stay the same as it always has
been.
Will I need a different user name or password?
Your user name will stay the same. You will need to reactivate your account
as a new user before using your new CougarMail account for the first time. Once
you reactivate your account Find out how to reactivate my account.
What is different?
You will now be using the same infrastructure that the Gmail email system is
built upon. This includes two gigabytes of storage, a calendar and incorporated chat
capability. In addition, you
will be accessing a much more stable system in which you will not experience
outages, delays in delivery or quota issues. Besides all the great new features,
there are some differences in the way your Inbox and folders will be handled.

What do I need to do so that emails will be sent to my
"new" CougarMail account and not my old account?
Absolutely nothing. As of January 5, 2007,
mail is automatically be sent to your new account.
What should I do about emails in my old CougarMail
account?
You will not need to do anything with email and contacts in your old
account. As announced, on January 31, 2007 the old CougarMail system was taken
offline. Technology Services will handle the removal of any remaining data on
the old mail servers. Any data left on those servers will not be available to
the account owner.
