Plant and Facilities Dress Code Policy
The College is concerned about the safety, welfare and well-being of its employees as well as presenting a professional and consistent appearance. With these concerns in mind, the College believes it is in the best interest of College employees identified below whose job duties and functions may be inherently more physical in nature than others, to adhere to the dress code and attire requirements set forth in this policy. Additionally, individuals employed in the positions identified below may have access to certain facilities at the College both during and outside of normal business hours where it is advantageous to be able to easily identify individuals as College employees based, in part, on their dress and attire.
This policy applies only to College employees with the job title of custodian, groundskeeper, HVAC mechanical worker and general maintenance worker as identified in each job description.
The College provides College-approved shirts for its custodians, groundskeepers, HVAC mechanical workers and general maintenance workers to wear and individuals employed in these capacities are expected to wear these shirts during the performance of their job duties while at the College.
Additionally, custodians, groundskeepers, HVAC mechanical workers and general maintenance workers are expected to wear dark colored cotton denim pants (for example: jeans or similar) during the performance of their job duties while at the College. The College does not provide pants to employees; however, the College does provide individuals employed in these capacities with an annual stipend to help cover part of the cost of pants.
Custodians, groundskeepers, HVAC mechanical workers and general maintenance workers are prohibited from wearing open-toed footwear and are expected to wear footwear that is appropriate for the job duties they perform at the College.
At all times while performing job duties at the College, employees are expected to maintain a clean, neat, professional and well-groomed appearance. Individuals who believe they may need replacement shirts from the College should contact their supervisor.
If an employee does not comply with this policy, they will be advised of the proper dress by their supervisor. If the employee fails to comply for a second time, they will be asked to leave work and return in proper dress consistent with this policy. Chronic problems with failing to comply with this policy may result in written counseling and formal disciplinary action from the supervisor.
Individuals who believe they may require an individual exception to this policy should contact their manager or the Human Resources Office as soon as possible.
