Columbia College partners with Hallsville R-IV School District
Columbia College and the Hallsville R-IV School District have joined forces to create a unique partnership. The agreement, to be signed officially on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. in the president's office, will give Columbia College teacher education practicum students the chance to gain in-field teaching experience at elementary, middle and secondary schools within Hallsville R-IV. In addition, Hallsville faculty will be given the opportunity to take master level classes at Columbia College, free of charge.
"Columbia College is an institution that honors and participates in high- quality education at all levels in the community," said Dr. Gerald Brouder, president of Columbia College. "So it is truly a pleasure to partner with Hallsville to host our Teacher Certification Program students. This new engagement will benefit the Hallsville schools, their teachers, and Columbia College students," said Brouder.
Hallsville Superintendent, John Robertson and Dr. Gerald Brouder will make the agreement official on Thursday. Dr. Terry Smith, executive vice president and dean for academic affairs, Dr. Paul Hanna, department chairman and assistant professor of education, Dr. Kristi Miller, assistant professor of education and Marsha Knudsen, partnership/field experience liaison for the Education Department will be part of the signing ceremony.
Columbia College's Education Department, in accordance with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), believes future teachers should spend a significant amount of time in the classroom. The Hallsville partnership will give students the opportunity to spend time observing in the classroom, assisting with administrative tasks, working with students and teaching.
