Proctor Information

What is a proctor? A proctor is an approved person that administers an exam for a Columbia College student. The proctor will verify the student's identity by checking a photo ID and will ensure academic honesty during the exam. Proctored exams add validity to online course work and are required for some online courses.

What do I have to do? As a student needing to complete a proctored exam, it is your responsibility to select a proctor and submit this information to your instructor as outlined in the course syllabus. You must also schedule a date and time to complete your exams. If you request to use a private proctor, it is your responsibility to verify with your instructor that they have been approved.

You have three options for selecting a proctor:

  1. A Columbia College campus
  2. ProctorU or
  3. a private proctor.

Columbia College locations are the best option for proctors and are automatically approved. ProctorU is also automatically approved. Private proctors are approved by each instructor. Previous approval of a private proctor does not guarantee subsequent approval.

Acceptable private proctors normally include, but are not limited to, faculty, other university or college testing centers, ministers, military education officers, non-direct superiors and corporate executive officers, and public librarians. Columbia College has also approved ProctorU as a private proctor resource. You may wish to check the listing provided by the NCTA Consortium of College Testing Centers for available proctors and testing centers. Some testing centers may assess a fee for testing. Any fees incurred are your responsibility.

If you are using a Columbia College campus, please select the campus below, reserve your seat and notify your instructor as outlined in your course.
