Proctor information

What is a proctor? A proctor is an approved person that administers an exam for a Columbia College student. The proctor will verify the student's identity by checking a photo ID and will ensure academic honesty during the exam. Proctored exams add validity to online course work and are required for some online courses.

What do I have to do? As a student needing to complete a proctored exam, it is your responsibility to select a proctor and submit this information to your instructor as outlined in the course syllabus. You must also schedule a date and time to complete your exams. If you request to use a private proctor, it is your responsibility to verify with your instructor that they have been approved.

You have three options for selecting a proctor:

  1. A Columbia College campus
  2. ProctorU or
  3. a private proctor.

There is no charge for students who have an exam proctored by Columbia College or ProctorU.

*In the event that students no-show to their scheduled ProctorU exam period or do not reschedule within 24 hours in advance of the scheduled ProctorU exam period, a fine will be placed on their student accounts.

Columbia College locations are the best option for proctors and are automatically approved. ProctorU is also automatically approved. Private proctors are approved by each instructor. Previous approval of a private proctor does not guarantee subsequent approval.

Acceptable private proctors normally include, but are not limited to, faculty, other university or college testing centers, ministers, military education officers, non-direct superiors and corporate executive officers, and public librarians. Columbia College has also approved ProctorU as a private proctor resource. (Not available for MFT or ETS proctoring.) Some testing centers may assess a fee for testing. Any fees incurred are your responsibility.

If you are using a Columbia College campus, please select the campus below, reserve your seat and notify your instructor as outlined in your course.
