Columbia College students who utilize the Steven and Barbara Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship receive services free of charge. For students, the Center is an impactful education partner with a mission to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit and promote entrepreneurship as a career choice. Steven and Barbara Fishman met during their undergraduate years at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. In 1996, the Fishman’s generously established a scholarship to provide financial assistance to business students at the College and also provided funding for the inaugural Steven and Barbara Fishman Award in Entrepreneurship. Mr. Fishman received the College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999. In 2013, Mr. Fishman generously provided funding to establish the Steven and Barbara Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship. The Steven and Barbara Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship was created to celebrate the Fishmans’ passion for providing support for academics and students who embrace entrepreneurial endeavors.
The Center director is Rebecca Gordon-Bocklage, MBA who is an experienced entrepreneur with more than 25 years in startup and small business management. Bocklage is founder of more than 10 for-profit and non-profit businesses and initiatives, who also has a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry, having taught in the Department of Business for Columbia College since 1999. She is a strong entrepreneurship professional with a MBA focused in Business, Management, and Marketing from Missouri State University.
The Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship is located in New Hall at the Columbia College main campus. The Center is charged with serving students from all locations in the Columbia College network, which includes 38 locations, students taking classes online, and Day campus students. There are more than 20,000 Columbia College students.
