Tuesday, June 13, 2006

(Jacksonville, Fla.)-Columbia College has opened a second campus in Jacksonville, Fla., to serve the needs of working adults in the area. The campus will be in addition to the Columbia College campus located on Naval Air Station Jacksonville. The new campus is located in Southpoint on Butler Boulevard between I-95 and US-1 (Phillips Highway) at 7077 Bonneval Road, Suite 114, Jacksonville, Fla., 32216; its phone number is (904) 338-9150.

The Florida Commission for Independent Education approved the new campus May 19. Classes will begin in August and will include both associate- and baccalaureate-level on-campus and online classes in convenient eight-week sessions. The accelerated format is ideal for working adults who balance work, family and school commitments.

On-campus degrees will be offered in general/interdisciplinary studies, computer information systems, business administration (with majors including human resource management, accounting and management), criminal justice administration and psychology. Online degrees will be available in general/interdisciplinary studies, business administration (including majors in human resource management, accounting and management), criminal justice administration, American studies, history, interdisciplinary studies, psychology and sociology. Registration for the August session begins July 10.

"Record growth in the Jacksonville market has necessitated the need for an additional campus," said Mike Randerson, Columbia College vice president for Adult Higher Education. "Columbia College continues to grow as a preferred choice for northeast Florida adult students seeking a regionally accredited college degree."

Randerson also notes that Columbia College, including its campuses in Jacksonville, is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association, which means courses taken at the college can transfer to other two- and four-year accredited colleges and universities.

Columbia College, founded in Missouri in 1851, serves nearly 25,000 students nationwide each year at its Day Campus, Evening Campus, Online Campus, Graduate Studies Program and its more than 30 Nationwide Campuses. Columbia College-NAS Jacksonville was founded in Jacksonville in 1990.
