Compton elected regional president of Alpha Chi

COLUMBIA, Mo., April 22 - Dr. Tonia Compton, assistant professor of history at Columbia College, was elected president of Region IV for Alpha Chi National College Honor Society. Compton will be responsible for coordinating activities for all Alpha Chi member institutions in Region IV. Compton’s term is for 2014-16.

Compton holds bachelor’s degrees in history and political science from Columbia College, a master’s degree in history from Texas A&M University and a doctorate in history from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Compton serves as the faculty representative on the Columbia College Alumni Association Board of Directors, and coordinates the college’s celebration of Women’s History Month each March.

Alpha Chi recognizes students from all academic disciplines. Membership is reserved for the top 10 percent of an institution’s juniors, seniors and graduate students.
