Columbia College named to the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Columbia College was recently named to the 2014 Military Friendly Schools list by Victory Media, a respected media outlet for servicemembers returning to civilian life. With this recognition, Columbia College is ranked in the top 20 percent of colleges nationwide for being military friendly.

“It’s an honor to be named to the Military Friendly Schools list,” said Mike Lederle, assistant dean for military and federal programs at Columbia College. “We continuously strive to provide a quality education for our military learners, and their families, and we genuinely understand the unique needs they have.”

The Military Friendly Schools list is based on a survey of more than 10,000 institutions across the country approved for VA tuition funding, and looks at criteria such as student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies and an institution’s flexibility to the changing demands of service members.

Nearly 25 percent of Columbia College students either are servicemembers, veterans or their dependents. Many of those associated with the military are enrolled throughout the Columbia College Nationwide system, many of which are located on military bases, including one in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Founded in 1851 in Columbia, Mo., Columbia College has been helping students advance their lives through higher education for more than 160 years. As a private, nonprofit, liberal arts and sciences institution, the college takes pride in its small classes, experienced faculty and quality educational programs. With more than 30 campuses across the country, 18 of which are on military installations, students may enroll in day, evening or online classes. The college is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Columbia College educates more than 31,000 students each year and has more than 74,000 alumni worldwide. For more information, visit www.ccis.edu.
