Columbia College-Freeport to conduct commencement Nov. 6

(COLUMBIA, Mo.) - Columbia College will confer undergraduate and graduate degrees upon graduates at the Freeport Campus commencement ceremony at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Highland Community College Student Conference Center, in Freeport, Ill.

Kevin Palmer, Columbia College chief information officer, will give the commencement address. Dr. Gary Massey, dean for adult higher education at Columbia College, will confer the degrees.

"Graduation is the culmination of students' efforts to improve their lives through education," said Massey. "We are proud to honor their accomplishments."

Columbia College, a private, nonprofit institution, was founded in Missouri in 1851 as Christian Female College, the first women's college west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by a state legislature. The college changed its name to Columbia College in 1970 when it became coeducational.

Established in 1996 on the campus of Highland Community College, Columbia College-Freeport was originally requested by community leaders who desired a four-year degree program in the city.

Columbia College-Freeport is part of the college's extended network of more than 30 Nationwide Campuses across the country.
