(COLUMBIA, Mo.) —Columbia College will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its online program from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Online Education Center located at 310 N. 10th Street. Missouri Governor Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon recently recognized Columbia College's online program when he proclaimed October as "Columbia College Online Education Month."
"I am pleased and gratified by this proclamation," said Dr. Gerald Brouder, Columbia College president. "It confirms the quality, convenience, growth and dynamism of the Columbia College Online Campus in the last ten years. In today's hectic, 24/7 environment, flexible learning arrangements such as online offer the most flexibility and value for today's students."
In 2000, under the direction of President Brouder, the college began offering students an online education, giving students in Missouri as well as across the country an opportunity to further their education. The first session offered 10 courses and enrolled 185 students.
Now, the Online Campus is the college's largest, fastest-growing adult program. In fact, the Online Campus had the highest enrollment figures for the 2009-2010 academic year and nearly 21,000 students took at least one online course. Of that total, 6,680 were exclusively Online Campus students.
Currently, the Online Campus offers 17 undergraduate degrees and three master's degrees in business, criminal justice and teaching. Columbia College Online Campus celebrates 10th anniversary Congratulations Columbia College for 10 years of global education! - PAGE 2
Earlier this year, the Online Campus offices relocated to a newly renovated 11,000 square-foot structure located on 10th Street that includes the main campus testing center and a 48-station computer lab. But the exponential growth of the program has created a need for additional space. Columbia College administrators recently announced the acquisition of the 30,000 square foot Columbia Federal Building located at 608 E. Cherry Street, and the college plans to move the Online Campus to the new space to facilitate even more growth in the years to come.
