College Goal Sunday helps students finance college
Friday, January 30, 2009

(COLUMBIA, Mo.) -- On Feb. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m., students and parents can meet one-on-one with financial aid advisors at the College Goal Sunday in Dulany Hall on the Columbia College campus. Students will receive help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the first step in applying for federal aid. All post-secondary schools accept FAFSA.

In addition, one attendee at the Columbia College location will also receive a $500 scholarship. The student can use the money for the 2009 academic year at any college in the country, provided they are a first semester freshman in the fall of 2009.

Every year, the United States Department of Education makes more than $67 billion in post-secondary financial aid available to students throughout the nation. College Goal Sunday makes applying for financial aid easier.

Families who bring their completed 2008 income tax returns to College Goal Sunday will be able to complete the FAFSA at the event. Families who have not completed their tax returns will learn valuable information to help them finish the FAFSA at home. Last year, College Goal Sunday helped more than 1,000 Missouri students obtain financial aid, and more than 7,000 have received assistance over the last four years. Volunteers and financial aid professionals will staff the event.
