(COLUMBIA, Mo.) -- Columbia College announced a new structure for several departments, including Public Relations and Marketing (PRM) and Development and Alumni Services (DAS). Public relations and marketing functions have been separated to better serve the college.
Marketing will become a division more strategically and target-oriented. The college is forming a search advisory committee to aid in identifying an executive director of marketing who will report to the president and represent the marketing division on the president's Administrative Council. The division will work closely with the assistant vice president for enrollment management in advancing student services.
A search currently is underway for a senior director to manage the public relations team, which includes editorial, Web and creative services staff. Also, Alumni Services will become Alumni Relations to better reflect its mission and to align more with sector standards. As a whole, the division will be named Development, Alumni and Public Relations. Michael Kateman, as executive director, will represent all three areas on Administrative Council.
Though reporting lines have changed, the two divisions will continue to work together to support college initiatives.
This announcement follows recent changes at the college, including the development of an enrollment management division and the appointment of a new director of admissions.
One thing Columbia College is not is static," said Dr. Gerald Brouder, president. "The college continues to thrive in tough economic times because we regularly assess our programs and processes and, where necessary, implement changes to further the mission of the college."
Kateman said he is excited about the opportunities the new structure provides for the college. "I'm confident this new, expanded structure will allow us to more effectively serve the college community and other constituents," he said. "I look forward to working with the public relations staff to promote this great institution."
Kateman joined Columbia College in 2006 as the executive director of Development and Alumni Services. Before that, he worked for 19 years at the University of Missouri-Columbia in all areas of institutional advancement. His diverse marketing, public relations and fundraising background includes healthcare, the arts, human services and higher education. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, with a master's degree from the School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing.
