Columbia College-Lake County was established in 1972 at Fort Sheridan Army Base and later moved to Glenview Naval Air Base. Other moves included Waukegan and Park City. In March, after 10 years in Park City, the campus moved to its present location in Gurnee.
The new campus was built specifically to meet the needs of today’s adult learners and features large classrooms equipped with the latest technology. The facility also includes a roomy cyber cafe and student lounge.
Columbia College, founded in Missouri in 1851 as Christian Female College, was the first women’s college west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by a state legislature. The college changed its name to Columbia College in 1970 when it became coeducational. Today, the college educates 25,000 students worldwide through its 33 Nationwide Campuses, Day Campus, Online Campus and Graduate Studies program.
