(Columbia, Mo.) - Jewly Harris has been selected as the new director of Columbia College-Salt Lake. In her new position, Harris is responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Salt Lake campus, including class scheduling and student and faculty recruitment and retention. Harris holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Phoenix and a master's degree in human resource management from Webster University.
Harris comes to the director position with experience in management and higher education. She began her career at Columbia College in December 2000 as the academic advisor for the Salt Lake campus and was promoted to assistant director in July 2007. Prior to joining the college, Harris was the director of Career Services at Utah Career College where she developed and maintained relationships with local businesses and assisted students with job placement. She also worked as a district sales manager for Brian Taylor and Associates, a clothing company, for two years.
"Over the years of working at Columbia College, I have gained a deep respect and admiration for the college," said Harris. "I have a strong belief in the power of knowledge and have witnessed how the journey of gaining a degree can impact one's life."
Harris said she is excited to be an integral part of Columbia College-Salt Lake as the campus continues to grow. "I cannot wait for graduation day to lead the graduates in the processional, to see their families beam with pride and to see the resolve in each graduate that they have finally completed their degree," she said. “We have the best students, staff and faculty of any college I have worked for. Like we always say at Columbia College, 'Someday starts today'." Columbia College-Salt Lake is one of the college's 34 nationwide campuses, including 17 on military bases. The Salt Lake campus was established in 1975 at Fort Douglas Army Education Center, and in 1989, moved to Decker Lane Drive when the base closed. In order to improve accessibility and increase visibility, the campus moved again in June 2008 to its present location near Interstate 15 and 5300 South in Murray.
Columbia College, a private institution founded in 1851 in Columbia, Mo., serves 25,000 students worldwide.
