Columbia, Mo. - On Nov. 5, Dr. Chris Mazurek, a psychology professor at Columbia College, will make an encore appearance on the game show, Jeopardy!, for the first episode of the show's Tournament of Champions. The show airs at 5 p.m. on KMIZ-TV. Mazurek last appeared on Jeopardy! in October 2006. After four days as champion, Mazurek finally was defeated on the fifth day of play. Because of his performance, Mazurek was asked in September to return for an October taping of the Tournament of Champions.
The Tournament of Champions is an event that brings together 15 Jeopardy! champions from more than a year of episodes. The contestants are then selected based upon both the number of days won, as well as their dollar-prize earnings. The tournament will continue through 10 episodes of play until the contestants are narrowed down to three. The final three contestants then will play two episodes until a champion is chosen. He is bound by a contract with "Jeopardy's" production company not to provide information about the show's outcome, including the number of days he may appear.
Mazurek said he was thrilled to participate a second time. "I feel so privileged to have gotten to play again," he said. After his last Jeopardy! appearance, Mazurek took home nearly $77,000 in prize money, which he used to contribute toward the purchase of a new home for his family. "With a new baby on the way, having a new house is very nice," he said.
