Columbia, Mo. – For decades, Columbia College's Jane Froman Singers have delighted audiences throughout the world. Now, listeners in China will be singing their praises as well.
The 24-member student choir was selected by audition as one of six American choirs to represent the United States at the Beijing International Choir Festival held in conjunction with the annual All-China Choral Conductors Convention. This prestigious honor includes an invitation to sing a solo concert at the convention.
The Singers will perform July 8-18 with performances in major concert halls in Beijing and Tianjin. Bilingual choral workshops will be an integral part of this historic gathering, as will sightseeing, cultural exchanges, orientation meetings and other cultural activities.
In preparation for the event, the choir will hold an afternoon rehearsal from 1-6 p.m. on Saturday, July 7 in the Jane Froman Studio on the Columbia College campus. The media is invited to record video footage and take photographs of the choir. Nollie Moore, choir director, will be available for phone interviews at (573) 289-8433 or by appointment at the same number.
Upon returning from China, the choir will join the Missouri Chamber Orchestra as part of the Hot Summer Nights Concert Series. The event will take place at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 22 at First Baptist Church in downtown Columbia. The Evensong concert event will include much of the music performed by the choir in China.
The Jane Froman Singers is a mixed choral ensemble named for a distinguished Columbia College alumna.
