Columbia College hires Nyland as serving the public servants coordinator in Norfolk, Va.

Columbia College is pleased to announce the addition of Michelle "Shelley" Nyland as the new serving the public servants coordinator in Norfolk, Va.In this position, Nyland will be responsible for promoting institutional programs and providing student support services such as admissions, registration and advising for Online Campus students in the area and manage education and career fair activities in the greater Hampton Roads area.

"We are excited to welcome Shelley to our team," said Ramona McAfee, assistant dean for military services, adult higher education. "With Shelley's background in public relations, marketing for the Navy and also for the private sector, we feel Columbia College will really benefit from her expertise."

Nyland graduated from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., with a bachelor's degree in integrated public relations. She previously worked for the Navy Federal Credit Union as a recruit presentation specialist and as an account executive for, both in the Chicago metropolitan area. Nyland's husband, Michael, graduated in August 2009 from Columbia College; he has been in the U.S. Navy for nine years.
