Columbia College recognizes employees of the year

During the annual employee appreciation luncheon on April 6, Columbia College awarded Rebecca Bennett, administrative assistant, and Brian Whitlow, HVAC/mechanical specialist, both of the maintenance department, with the Harold E. Nichols Plant and Facilities Employee of the Year award. This was the fourth year for the award and the first year for a tie.

"Both Becky and Brian are great examples of positive, productive employees," said Bob Hutton, executive director of administrative services. "Harold would be proud of their accomplishments."

Harold Nichols was a long-term college maintenance employee who died unexpectedly four years ago. To honor and remember Nichols, the college established the Harold E. Nichols Plant and Facilities Employee of the Year award, which is given to the employee who best demonstrates the work ethic, team-player attitude and good humor of Harold Nichols. All candidates were nominated by fellow Columbia College employees and recognized during the luncheon before the winners were announced.

Columbia College, a private, nonprofit institution founded in 1851 in Columbia, Mo., educates more than 26,000 students each year and has more than 64,000 alumni worldwide. For more information, visit
