About Fort Stewart campus

Columbia College-Fort Stewart was established in 2002. The campus provides higher education to working adults and offers high-tech classrooms, qualified academic advisors and faculty and high-speed, online access to library resources.

Columbia College-Fort Stewart provides a unique educational opportunity to working adults through its degree offerings and eight-week course format. As part of a network of campuses across the country and a robust online program, the college offers convenient courses to civilians as well as military adult learners.

More than 1,200 students take a mix of in-seat and online classes.

Columbia College-Fort Stewart has an agreement with Central Texas College, which allows students a seamless transition from an associate degree through a bachelor’s degree, and beyond, at Columbia College.

Campus History

Columbia College-Fort Stewart was established in 2002 to serve the military population and their families on the base and surrounding communities. Today it continues to serve civilian and military adult learners in the area.

Columbia College-Fort Stewart is part of Columbia College's network of nationwide campuses. The first extended campus was founded in St. Louis in 1973 after an Army education services officer was interested in providing courses to Army recruiters in the area.

Today, the Division of Adult Higher Education at Columbia College includes 30 campuses, including one in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. About half of Columbia College's nationwide campuses are on military bases. The Online Campus at Columbia College also serves students in the Fort Stewart area.

Community Information

We know there's more to life than studying. When you're ready to take a break from the books, you'll find plenty of recreational, cultural and sports opportunities.

Fort Stewart is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River and home of the 3d Infantry Division (Mech). Fort Stewart's nearest and largest neighbor is Hinesville, a town of over 26,435 according to the 1990 census which is situated immediately outside the post's main gate. Hinesville is the county seat of historic Liberty County. Historical sites and tourist attractions include the "Old Jail" on Hinesville's Main Street built in 1882. Ties between Fort Stewart and Hinesville are close and friendly with soldiers taking an active part in civic organizations and projects in Hinesville. Also noted are the famous men from Georgia who were the signers of the Declaration of Independence -- Button Gwinnett and Dr. Lyman Hall.
