Columbia College-Kansas City named one of the best colleges in the area
(Columbia, MO) - Columbia College-Kansas City, one of Columbia College's 30 Nationwide Campuses, recently was selected by the "Kansas City Business Journal" as one of the top 25 colleges and universities in the Kansas City area for 2005.
Seventy-seven colleges and universities competed for the award. Evaluation criteria included:
- Enrollment growth during the past 12 months
- Cost of credit hours
- Student/faculty ratio
- Education level of faculty
- Availability of student financial aid programs
- Diversity of student population
"We are very proud to receive this honor," said Bob Jones, director of Columbia College-Kansas City. "The Kansas City campus has been working very diligently to meet the needs of working adult students in the Kansas City and surrounding areas." The Kansas City campus offers on-campus and online degrees in general studies/interdisciplinary studies, business administration, criminal justice administration, fire service administration, history and psychology, plus more than 350 online classes. The campus was established in 1988 in Blue Springs. It relocated to its current location on Blue Ridge Boulevard in January.
Columbia College was founded in Missouri in 1851 as Christian Female College, the first women's college west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by a state legislature. The college changed its name to Columbia College in 1970 when it became coeducational. Today, Columbia College serves more than 25,000 students across the country through its Day Campus, Evening Campus, Nationwide Campuses, Graduate Program and Online Campus.
