Main campus commencement
Columbia, Mo. -- Navy Capt. Kathryn M. Hobbs, the commanding officer at Naval Station Great Lakes in Illinois and chief of staff for the Navy Region Midwest, will address graduates at the Columbia College main campus commencement ceremony at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 18 in Southwell Complex (700 Range Line Road) in Columbia.
Hobbs, a 1978 graduate of Columbia College, was the first woman assigned to command a Navy Brig, the equivalent of a civilian prison. She also is a 2004 recipient of the Columbia College Distinguished Alumni Award.
The college will confer undergraduate and master's degrees to a total of 550 students from the main and extended campuses in December; of that number, approximately 300 are participating in the main campus commencement ceremony in Columbia. The college also will confer degrees to 27 students who represent the school's first class of nursing students made up of bridge-track (licensed practical nurses) and generic-track students.
