ESOL Class Information
English as a Second or Other Language program (ESOL) is an academic unit of the Humanities Department. The program is staffed by caring, qualified college faculty committed to student success and instructional excellence. The ESOL program is open to prospective college students, professionals, and others who wish to learn English as a second or international language.
Our ESOL classes have a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio, which allows for small classes and individualized attention. To assist our ESOL students, free tutoring is also available through the Seabrook Writing Center.
ESOL courses at Columbia College are designed with special emphases in mind - such as composition, speaking and listening, and academic content. Students in all ESOL classes are strongly encouraged to:
- practice reading, writing, speaking and listening every day
- use English, both in and out of the classroom
- ask questions and express themselves actively
