ASIS - Adolescent Screening Inventory
Version 2.0
(Updated August 2008)
This instrument was developed as an assessment tool for doing
admission intakes at a psychiatric hospital on the adolescent unit. After
several intakes failed to identify key problem areas this tool was an
attempt to discover issues or problems that the worker might not think
to ask about directly and which the informant might hesitate to mention
on their own. In that respect the ASIS was successful.
By design the questionnaire is long and it is suggested that the intake
worker read the questions, avoiding the subheading categories, to the
client and have them answer a simple yes or no. Answering yes to a
question should flag that item for further inquiry after the whole
instrument has been administered. An affirmative answer is by no means
a sign of serious problems or pathology but rather an area where follow
up questions are in order. Although it might be useful there has been no
effort to make the results quantifiable and this is more of a qualitative
assessment tool than a quantitative instrument.
