Columbia, Mo. - Columbia College Men's Basketball Head Coach Bob Burchard was recently appointed to represent the NAIA on the USA Basketball Collegiate Committee for the 2005-2008 quadrennium. The Committee is responsible for recommendations to the Board concerning USA Basketball's men's collegiate events, including the selection of players and coaches. In preparation for the upcoming U21 World and the World University Games, Burchard will be meeting with eight other coaches during this year's Final Four weekend. Those coaches include Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Ernie Kent (Oregon), Scott Schumacher (Kilgor College), Bill Self (Kansas), Tubby Smith (Kentucky), Steve Wojciechowski (Duke) and AJ Wynder (Nassau CC).
This is Burchardís second stint with USA basketball. In 2000, Burchard was a "court coach" for the USA Basketball squad in Colorado, serving as the NAIA representative of the coaching staff that was led by Boeheim. Burchard helped guide a squad which consisted of collegiate All-Americans, including Zach Randolph, Carlos Boozer, Nick Collison, Kirk Hinrich, Jason Ricardson and Tayshaun Prince. This season Burchard had led his Columbia Cougar's to a 21-13 record and will appear in the first round of this year's NAIA National Tournament this Wednesday, March 16 when they face No. 1 seed and defending National Champions Mountain State (W. Va.). Tip off is scheduled for 8:45 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
