IF YOU WANT A PEER MENTOR
What is a peer mentor?
A peer mentor is someone who will serve as a role model and guide for you; it is someone who can advise you and help you explore various aspects of college life including both academic and non-academic endeavors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate together in an SSS activity at least once a month
- Meet at least once a month for an outside activity
- Meet jointly with the Tutor/Mentor Coordinator on a regular basis
EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES:
- Eat a meal together
- Meet for coffee
- See a movie
- Volunteer at a local service organization
- Join the reading program for Field Elementary
- Study together (a mentor may also serve as a tutor)
- Visit a library
- Travel to Jeff City, St. Louis, or Kansas City
- Go to a gym
- Hike or bike
- Visit Shelter Gardens
- View an art exhibit
If you think you would like a peer mentor, contact your SSS advisor or the Tutor/Mentor Coordinator (875-7628). She will match your interests and goals with someone in the SSS program and arrange a meeting time.
IF YOU WANT TO BE A PEER MENTOR
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 30 hours of college credit completed
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Good role-modeling skills
- A desire to help a fellow student succeed academically and personally

- Meet at least once a month for an activity outside of SSS
- Maintain written records
- Meet jointly with the Tutor/Mentor Coordinator on a regular basis
EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES:
- Eat a meal together
- Meet for coffee
- See a movie
- Volunteer at a local service organization
- Join the reading program for Field Elementary
- Study together (a mentor may also serve as a tutor and receive tutor pay and points)
- Visit a library
- Travel to Jeff City, St. Louis, or Kansas City
- Go to a gym
- Hike or bike
- Visit Shelter Gardens
- View an art exhibit
COMPENSATION
- A monthly stipend of $30-$50 will be awarded depending upon the number and types of activities
- Points will be assigned towards Grant Awards
