What is women's studies?
Women's studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that uses gender as a lens to critically examine society. Considered an ever-evolving discipline, women’s studies takes a critical look at social institutions. The discipline highlights the many ways in which gender intersects with race, class, sexuality and citizenship. Women’s studies has a uniquely global perspective, acknowledging that the gendered experience of women and men worldwide is both similar and different in important ways.
Why minor in women's studies?
Women’s studies exemplifies the best of liberal arts education. Students with minors in women’s studies graduate with highly developed critical thinking skills. They experience small class sizes and receive individualized attention from faculty. The interdisciplinary nature of the field signals to future employers that a student is well-rounded and able to view important issues from a variety of perspectives. Students with minors in women’s studies are also well-prepared, and encouraged, to enter graduate programs in a variety of disciplines.
