The Jane Froman Singers The Jane Froman Singers is a mixed choral ensemble of 35-40 that studies, prepares and performs primarily classic choral literature. At least one performance each year is devoted to a major work. Recent works have included Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria & Magnificat, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Mass in C Minor, Arvo Pärt's Missa Syllabica, and Henry Purcell's Dido & Aeneas. This auditioned group concertizes 2-3 times each semester and travels extensively. Recent concert tours have taken members to New York City's Carnegie Hall and to the great Cathedrals of Scotland, England, the Czech Republic and Canada. The meeting time is MWF at Noon in the Jane Froman Studio (Dorsey Hall). The Double Sextet hails from the glory days of Christian College. This select women's ensemble of 12 has long been revered as the most prestigious performance group at Columbia College. Its proud tradition of excellence in music and in service to the college continues today as the group prepares and presents music of the jazz and popular styles. Members are selected by audition from the Jane Froman Singers. Rehearsals are held each Thursday from 12:30-1:50 in the Jane Froman Studio. New

Students who are interested in music have the opportunity to declare it as a minor area of study. The requirements are 9 hours of applied music to be selected from the following: The Jane Froman Singers (3), Voice and Piano (1); and 9 hours of music coursework to be selected from the following: Music Appreciation (3), Music Fundamentals (3), Music of the United States (3), and Masterpieces of Music (3). The applied music courses are offered each semester and the remaining coursework is scheduled on a 2-year rotation schedule.
Private voice & piano lessons provide a student with the opportunity to study proper performance techniques one-on-one with a master teacher. Advanced courses extend study and practice through the preparation of increasingly advanced literature. Studio Recitals At the end of each semester selected students in both the voice and piano studios prepare and present a shared recital for the campus community. Recruitment tours are a student musician’s opportunity to serve Columbia College by singing for high schools in the communities of current and prospective students. These valuable service opportunities have taken the various ensembles all over the state of Missouri. Recruitment trips are scheduled for even years in late spring. Domestic & International Concert Tours have taken Columbia College singers to New York City’s Carnegie Hall, England’s Canterbury & York Minster Cathedrals, Prague, and Montreal. These amazing educational adventures provide musical memories that last a lifetime. Concert tours are scheduled for odd years over the spring recess or immediately following the spring semester.
