Columbia College of Missouri

PSYCHOLOGY

Why study Psychology?            The Psychology Program

Understanding why we do the things we do and think the things we think has critical importance to all of us.  The discipline of psychology, through scientific study, attempts to observe, describe, predict and understand human behavior and mental processes.

The psychology program at Columbia College is designed to develop student competencies in the scientific study of human behavior.  Through individual research, the study of theories and perspectives, and by applied work in internships, students are prepared to continue graduate studies in psychology and other disciplines, or go to work in the helping professions.

Two program areas are available for the student who decides to major in psychology.

The Applied Program is designed to develop competencies in practical application of theories to specific environments or settings and should be selected by students who plan to seek employment immediately following graduation.

The Advanced-Studies Program is designed to prepare students for graduate studies in psychology or in other disciplines.
