Columbia College-Redstone Arsenal to conduct commencement Saturday, Oct. 30

(COLUMBIA, Mo.) Columbia College will confer undergraduate and graduate degrees upon graduates at the Redstone Arsenal campus commencement ceremony Saturday, Oct. 30. The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. at the Bob Jones Auditorium Sparkman Center, Redstone Arsenal, Al.

The College will award 64 associate, 75 bachelor's and 17 master's degrees. Dr. Terry Smith, executive vice president and dean of academic affairs will give the commencement address. Smith will confer the degrees and Ramona McAfee, assistant dean for military and federal programs, will assist. Carol Winkler '93, alumni board of trustees member, will provide the alumni charge.

"Graduation is the culmination of students' efforts to improve their lives through education," said Smith. "We are proud to honor their accomplishments."

Columbia College, a private, nonprofit institution, was founded in Missouri in 1851 as Christian Female College, the first women's college west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by a state legislature. The college changed its name to Columbia College in 1970 when it became coeducational.

Coumbia College-Redstone Arsenal was established in 1975 to serve the military population and their families on the base and surrounding communities. Today, after 35 years of existence, it continues to serve civilian and military adult learners in the area. Columbia College-Redstone Arsenal is part of the college's extended network of more than 30 Nationwide Campuses across the country.
