Columbia College-Crystal Lake and Elgin to hold joint commencement ceremony June 23

(Crystal Lake, Ill.)- Columbia College–Crystal Lake and Elgin campuses will confer 153 associate and bachelor’s degrees upon graduates at a joint commencement ceremony at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 23, at the Evangelical Free Church in Crystal Lake, Ill.

Dr. Ann Bledsoe, assistant professor of mathematics, will give the commencement address, and René Massey, assistant dean of Adult Higher Education, will confer the degrees.

"For Columbia College graduates, the commencement ceremony is the culmination of their hard work and dedication to improve their lives," Massey said. "We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of each graduate on this special day."

Columbia College, founded in Missouri in 1851 as Christian Female College, was the first women’s college west of the Mississippi River to be chartered by a state legislature. The college changed its name to Columbia College in 1970 when it became coeducational.

Columbia College–Crystal Lake was founded in 1989 at McHenry County College and moved to its current location at 100 S. Main St. in 2000. Columbia College–Elgin was founded in 1997 on the Elgin Community College campus. Today, both campuses continue to serve working adults in the area.

Columbia College provides accredited, affordable on-campus and online degrees, serving nearly 25,000 students each year through its 32 Nationwide Campuses, Online Campus, Evening Campus, Day Campus and Graduate Studies Program.
