Forensic Science Showcase (Overnight)

Interested in Forensic Science? Come to the Forensic Science Showcase! Participate in forensic lab activities and instrument work, plus have the opportunity to stay overnight on campus. This event is ideal for academically focused students who have completed high school biology and chemistry. It is designed to enhance students’ problem solving, teamwork and communication skills.

To RSVP click the event date, complete the form and pay the $15 registration fee.

Before the event 

Parents and students must complete and sign the Overnight Visit release form in order to participate in the event. Submit your completed form to at least three days prior to showcase. Contact the Admissions Office at (573) 875-7352 with any questions.

Event schedule

Attendees will take a walking tour of campus with Student Ambassadors, which will last approximately one hour. Your tour will include visits to the residence halls, dining hall, athletic complex, classrooms and more. Students will walk downtown for dinner, participate in an evening activity and stay overnight in the residence hall. It's all included in your $15 registration fee!

On Saturday morning families are welcome to join their student in the dining hall for breakfast, hear a presentation from faculty, and participate in a lab activity. The event is expected to end by 12 p.m.

Arrival & departure

Check-in opens at 3 p.m. in Brouder Science Center, and the program begins at 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, you will be given your schedule for your evening and an informational packet. ​Be sure to bring your luggage, blankets, pillows and personal items with you to check-in.

This is a student-only event. However, parents are invited back to campus Saturday morning for a introduction to Columbia College, an overview of the forensic science program and a lab activity. There will be optional campus tours as well. Please let Admissions staff know at check-in if you'd like to take part in the parents' info session and tour.


Free parking will be available in our non-residential lots, located along Rangeline Street and the corner of Tenth and Rogers Street. For more information, view the campus map or driving directions.

Suggested packing list

Once your RSVP has been received, you will receive more detailed information in your confirmation packet.

  • Clothing for two days and appropriate sleep wear (jacket if cooler weather)
  • Toiletries (shower essentials, towel, etc.)
  • Personal care products (hair care, toothbrush, etc.)
  • Sleeping bag, blanket and pillow (students will sleep on the floor of the res hall rooms)
  • Medications and copy of insurance card
  • Miscellaneous (phone charger, petty cash, earphones, etc.)


Your registration fee will cover the cost for dinner, snacks and breakfast in our dining hall and local restaurants. If you have any dietary needs or restrictions, please notify the Admissions Office at (573) 875-7352.

Overnight accommodations for guests

Overnight accommodations are plentiful in the Columbia area for guests and parents of students attending the event. For more information on hotels and motels, visit the Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau at or call (800) 652-0987.
